Five DEPM Building Staff Win Service Workers Awards

We are proud to announce that employees of five DEPM-managed properties were honored on October 23rd at the 7th Annual Service Workers of the Year Awards ceremony by Straus News and Service Workers Union 32B/J. Sheamus Barry has been named Doorman of the Year, Ideniz Cintron has been named Doorwoman of the Year, Albert Staszkiewicz has received the Green Award, Otis Slaton has received the Longevity Award, and John Egan was named Building Manager of the Year. Congratulations to you all on a job well done!

Straus News publishes several community newspapers in the New York Metro area, including Our Town and the West Side Spirit, which featured photos and interviews with the Award Winners. Excerpts from those articles appear below:

Ideniz Cintron, Doorwoman of the Year, has worked at the downtown Riverhouse Condominium for over five years. “My favorite part of the job is the residents,” says Cintron, adding she enjoys getting to know families personally and watching the children she sees regularly grow up.

At 778 Park Avenue, you can find John Egan, Building Manager of the Year, running things as smoothly as possible.

Otis Slaton, winner of the Longevity Award, has been Assistant Super at the same apartment building in Inwood for the past 46 years. Slaton has also been a shop steward with the union for the past 38 years and is a member of the grievance committee.

Albert Staszkiewicz, winner of the Green Award, has been working in the same East 80th Street building for 20 years. His job includes repairing plumbing, electrical problems and leaks as well as cleaning and general maintenance. To keep things “Green” he uses efficient and environmentally-friendly light bulbs, surveys water efficiency, and uses more natural chemicals.

Sheamus Barry, Doorman of the Year, takes his job very seriously at his building on East 72nd Street.
